    Anna Maria Island Attractions

There are many wonderful things to see and do on Anna Maria Island. A relaxing stroll is a great way to get an idea of the local delights. The island itself is remakably beautiful, with tropical plants surrounding quaint homes and small businesses.

By far, the most popular Anna Maria Island attraction is the beach. It is easily one of the most beautiful beaches in America. While some areas on Florida's coast - particularly the east coast - have rich, coarse sand, Anna Maria Island beaches are made up of fine, white, powdery sand, which is dotted with beautiful shells. The bright sun transforms the beach into a brilliant landscape, making sunglasses and sunscreen necessary.

The shore on Anna Maria Island, like most of Florida's Gulf shores, is usually quite peaceful. The waves tend to be very small and gentle, making Anna Maria Island beaches perfect for children and those who like a calm (and calming) shore.

A great way to take a break from the sun is to visit the Anna Maria Island Historical Museum. Located in a small, pink building that used to be an ice house, the museum provides a rare glimpse into Anna Maria Island's unique history. Photographs, maps, videos, and artifacts detail early life on the island.
